Have You Seen This?: Public Art on City/School Campus – Government – West Des

A temporary installation of sculptures around the pond at the West Des Moines City/School campus was designed to get people thinking, experiencing and talking about art.And it worked.On Thursday members of the City Council, Public Arts Advisory Commission, artists and others gathered to unveil the exhibit "Positioned Perfectly for Community Vitality." But even as speeches were being made, residents were walking the trail with their kids and their dogs, and they stopped to examine the pieces. Artist Hilde DeBruyne's Circle of Life, which incorporates a vibrant red spiral on top of a base, is positioned right behind City Hall and drew many admirers for a closer look.Near the corner of City Hall, a three-figure metal sculpture by West Des Moines artist Dan Belt of a runner, dog and fire hydrant was a source of fun for members of Valley High School's Bakers Dozen mime troupe. The mimes re-interpreted poses of the sculpture, to the delight of kids going by. Part of the purchase price will help pay for future exhibits of Art on the Campus.
